UV Safety Month
UV Safety Month
July is recognized as UV Safety Month. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation can increase your risk of certain eye conditions such as photokeratitis, pingueculas, cataracts and macular degeneration.
To protect your vision, always wear sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays, even on cloudy days. Wide-brimmed hats add an extra layer of defense by reducing direct sunlight exposure.
UV protection is important year-round, not just during sunny summer months. Snow, water, and sand can reflect UV rays and increase exposure, so protecting your eyes in these environments is critical. Polarized lenses in these scenarios would be the optimal choice for best coverage.
This UV Safety Month, take proactive steps to protect your eyes. Regular eye exams can detect early signs of UV-related damage and help maintain overall eye health.
